PCensus databases can be installed on a network server and shared by multiple users; however, before doing this, you should contact Tetrad for information regarding licensing requirements. Special pricing applies when a database will be accessed by multiple users (whether shared on a network or installed on multiple computers).
Every workstation that will access a database must have a licensed copy of the PCensus program installed. The software cannot be run directly from a shared location (even though databases can be shared).
To share a database, you must first install it from the distribution CD or DVD at one of the workstations that will access it:
-
Run the Setup.exe program on the disk.
-
In the Select Database Folder step, specify a folder that will be accessible to all the workstations that will use the database. The folder should appear identical to all workstations, i.e. a UNC path (\\Server\PCensus\Databases) or as a mapped drive letter (X:\PCensus\Databases). The folder will be created if it does not exist, and the required files will be installed and registered.
When the database installation has been completed from the first workstation, run PCensus on each of the other workstations, and register the installed database
- Select Database Management... from the PCensus File menu.
- Click Register Database.
- Browse to select the database (.HDR) file at the shared location.
